In the law 2472/1997 we can find the legal arrangement of how to collect and modify personal data. Under this arrangement are the creators and administrators of a website with registered users and have to notify the Hellenic Data Protection Authority of the record they keep.

The greatest percentage of Hellenic websites and especially those that provide the opportunity of user registration are obliged to notify the Hellenic Data Protection Authority of the record they keep.

This notification to the Hellenic Data Protection Authority is a process that requires client-lawyer co-operation. Special technical knowledge on the part of the lawyer can be extremely helpful not only upon making the application but as well as in the support of them – whenever needed.

The process varies according to the country that the data are gathered and according to if the data is transmitted to an EU or a non- EU country. After the application is made there can be a long time period to the ruling of the Hellenic Data Protection Authority with or without the presence of a lawyer.
